In all the brouhaha this painting has caused, am I the only one to see the Kamikaze connection? Remember, the Palestinians were not the first people to put explosives on young men and let them blow themselves up for a 'divine' cause in a struggle against 'occupation'.
But in my mind there really is no comparison: the Japanese tried to blow up military targets, like ships, planes or soldiers, instead of trying to kill as many civilians as possible. Who knows, that actually may be the thing the artist wants us to think about.

They never learn, do they?
Chancellor Gerhard Schröder of Germany and Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik of Norway are now trying to tell Vladimir Putin what he should and should not do about Chechnya, after earlier efforts to tell George Bush how he should handle Iraq.
Putin's reaction, in diplo-speak, was something along the lines of 'talk to the hand, because the head is not listening'.
"The primary message was that we do not believe in any kind of military solution," said Mr. Bondevik, whose government has been liberal in granting political asylum to Chechen refugees. But no mention is made of what he thinks Putin should do instead.
